Penrhyn Sporting Chance, one of the most successful Pony Hunter Sires in the history of the United States Equestrian Federation, stands right here in Canada at Daventry Farms. He holds the record of siring the Top Seller out of all of the American Hunter Pony Classic Auctions at $75,000 US, a Half Welsh gelding named All Heart. His daughter Flower follows closely behind that record at $67,000 US. His foals have averaged as high as $31,767 US at the sales. Sporty has sired multiple USEF Pony Finals Overall Grand Champions, Devon winners, Pony Hunter Futurity winners and both USEF Zone and National Pony Hunter Champions. He was also named the 2001 USEF Pony Hunter Breeding Sire of the Year and has been high on the USEF Leading Pony Hunter Sire List for eleven consecutive years, holding the distinction of the top Canadian Stallion on the list each year. Sporty was also inspected and approved First Premium American Sport Pony, but we have decided not to renew his breeding license with the Registry.

"All Heart set the record for the highest price ever for a pony in the American Hunter Pony Classic when the gelding sold for $75,000 US at the 2005 American Hunter Pony Classic as Foxlair Fandango. Foxlair Fandango was sold by Richard M. Taylor's Venture Stable for the breeder, Stuart Kohler. Foxlair Fandango is by Penrhyn Sporting Chance out of Dance On Snow. "

All Heart is one of Sporty's most notable offspring. To date, he holds the record of being the Highest Selling Pony at any of the American Hunter Pony Classic Auctions at $75,000 US. He was sold a few months later for $200,000 US. All Heart, registered as Foxlair Fandango, finished 3rd overall in the Large Green Pony Hunters at the 2006 USEF Pony Hunter Finals and finished 10th Nationally in the USEF Large Green Pony Hunters that same year. He has won top ribbons at Upperville, Biltmore and Middleburg.

The Sporting Chance daughter, Monroe, has won at all of the major USEF shows across the country, finishing the 2008 season as the USEF Horse of the Year National Grand Champion Green Pony Hunter. She also finished 8th Nationally in the Small Pony Hunters. Monroe attended the USEF Pony Hunter Finals and placed 3rd in the Small Green Pony Hunter Under Saddle and finished 9th overall. This fabulous little pony was the 2008 WEF Circuit Champion for the Small Green Pony Hunters. Check out one of her winning hunter rounds on the Video Page.

"A four year old daughter of Penrhyn Sporting Chance was the high selling pony at the 2006 American Hunter Pony Classic at $67,000 US. Flower, a gray small pony, was sold by Leading Consignor Richard Taylor's Venture Stable. She was purchased by Mike Heintschel of Escondido, California. Taylor commented, "This is the best child's pony I have ever brought to the sale."

Poster Boy, by Sporty and out of our Welsh/TB pony broodmare, Rosecroft Smart Cookie, originally sold for $28,000 US at the 2004 American Hunter Pony Classic Auction, the 4th Highest Seller that year. He finished 4th overall at the 2005 USEF Pony Hunter Finals in the Medium Greens and 5th Nationally that same year in the USEF Medium Green Pony Hunters. He has been a multiple Pony Hunter Champion at Ocala, WEF, Atlanta, RMI Mid-Florida and finished off the 2009 season 4th Nationally in the Medium Pony Hunters in US. Daventry Farms will have a full sibling to Poster Boy available for purchase in 2011.

Sporty has produced ten Virginia Pony Breeder's Association Futurity winners, including Chance of a Lifetime, who was 2001 Devon Reserve Grand Champion Crossbred Pony and What Luck, Virginia Pony Breeder's Association Futurity Grand Champion. Among Sporty's amazing offspring are Foxlair Poker, Misty Blue Paris, First Hand, and Redwall. Detailed information and photos of Sporty's offspring can be found on the Offspring Page. Sporty has been consistently on the USEF Leading Pony Hunter Sire List each year. Due to a computer error by the USEF that spanned over four years (2004-2008), over twenty of Sporty's offspring had been left off of his USEF Sire totals, resulting in top 30th placings on the list. He should actually be listed within the Top Eight placings and we have worked with the USEF to resolve this issue, since purchasing him in 2009. It's unfortunate that the Sire Rating Lists cannot be changed once the year-end awards have been completed, but Sporty will still be awarded the points he deserves! View his yearly USEF standings here.

Sporty's pedigree is packed full of many successful Hunter and Welsh Ponies. Severn Merrymaker LOM, also by Twinkling Super Star of Penrhyn, has sired Champions Severn Stetson, WPCSA Grand Champion Severn Cheers and 2008 WPCSA National Champion Section A Stallion Severn Highlife. Twinkling Super Star of Penrhyn has been a successful Welsh sire over the years, with a total of over 2700 WPCSA Sire points. Sporty's grandsire is the successful import, *Rowfant Peanut. Also in Sporty's pedigree is Farnley Sirius, who has played a very important role in the breeding program of Farnley Farm and is prevelent in many hunter pony pedigrees today.

Sporty is also starting to make his mark as an extremely successful pony hunter broodmare sire. His daughter, Even Money, produced the successful young pony Glenhaven Work Of Art, who was named the Best Young Pony at Upperville in 2004 and Grand Champion of the 2004 VPBA Futurity and is now a successful pony hunter. Dress Blues, out of daughter Sporty Spice, sold for $27,000 US at the 2008 American Hunter Pony Classic Auction and was the High Selling 4 year old mare. Previous to that, she had been sold at the 2007 Auction for $17,000 US.

Sporting Chance has correct conformation, amazing form over fences and is one of the few Section A Welsh Ponies to throw a winning hunter under saddle trot into their foals! He has consistently passed the best to his foals - elegance, harmonious conformation, willing attitudes and incredible athleticism. Sporty is very charismatic and possesses the ability to put a smile on everyone's face. He does not throw a lot of height into his foals, which has made him an excellent cross on the larger Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse mares. He has been bred to mares as tall as 16.3 HH and all have stayed under 14.2 HH. He will be crossed to warmblood mares for the first time in 2010 and we are excited to see the results. Breeding to Penrhyn Sporting Chance isn't a gamble, it's a sure bet!
